Mr.Collins
What makes mr. Collins so special is that he is funny and a nightmare at the same time. Jane Austen exemplifies a perfect comedic character in Mr. Collins the fact at he annoyed us as the reader along with Mrs. Bennett really juxtaposes how the Bennett's and others thought toward Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins is funny in his stubborn proposal to Lizzy that he just did not understand that Lizzy refused his proposal and yet he kept going on with it. Also at the same time he is a nightmare in his proposal in which the readers is saying "are you kidding me!!! He doesn't understand no!!" Also another comedic nightmare by Mr. Collins is his letter to the Bennett's after Lydia goes off with Wickham. In the letter that was mention to show sympathy Mr. Collins expresses how the fancily should disown Lydia and how this will be a huge dent in the family's name. The nightmare is that we as the readers share kind of the same kind of emotions as the Bennett's do reading the letter and instead of reading a sympathy letter, the letter gives the Bennett's a negative look at the situation.

I totally agree with your comments. I think that each character may be perceived in different ways through different relationships. One character may see Mr. Collins as a hilarious person throughout the novel, while another character will see him as a nightmare because of the way they interact. The same analysis can be used for the reader; some readers may find his interactions pleasant with others, while others find it negative. Most of the reasoning behind the characters is based off of the outsiders point of view and judgement.
ReplyDeleteYour claims are supplemented with great examples in your paragraph. The inference of Collins as both funny, and a nightmare is very believable through your supported evidence, and one may find it easy to agree with you based upon the your passage.
ReplyDeleteDavid your paragraph acknowledged both Mr. Collins as a nightmare and a comedic character. Personally I liked your juxtaposition with Mrs.Bennet and comparing the two characters in a way that strengthened your argument. A couple of things you might want to address is there are a couple of grammar mistakes in your paragraph and also I feel you should include a Harding somewhere in your argument. Overall very good paragraph David!!!
ReplyDeleteI really agree with your analysis. I agree that he is both a nightmare at times and also a complete comical character at others. I like how you took both sides instead of being bias or choosing one side to argue. I completely agree with what you have said!
