Mr.Collins
What makes mr. Collins so special is that he is funny and a nightmare at the same time. Jane Austen exemplifies a perfect comedic character in Mr. Collins the fact at he annoyed us as the reader along with Mrs. Bennett really juxtaposes how the Bennett's and others thought toward Mr. Collins. Mr. Collins is funny in his stubborn proposal to Lizzy that he just did not understand that Lizzy refused his proposal and yet he kept going on with it. Also at the same time he is a nightmare in his proposal in which the readers is saying "are you kidding me!!! He doesn't understand no!!" Also another comedic nightmare by Mr. Collins is his letter to the Bennett's after Lydia goes off with Wickham. In the letter that was mention to show sympathy Mr. Collins expresses how the fancily should disown Lydia and how this will be a huge dent in the family's name. The nightmare is that we as the readers share kind of the same kind of emotions as the Bennett's do reading the letter and instead of reading a sympathy letter, the letter gives the Bennett's a negative look at the situation.

Essay
After writing my essay I should read a couple more times incase of stupid grammatical errors such as comma splices, misspelling and awkward sentences. Also I should be more aware of the rules of the format such as knowing which words to italicize. Secondly I need to work on my body paragraphs reflecting on exactly what my thesis says and not shift and try to focus on my main point. Also maybe next time in my introduction i should not be so direct with my main point as directly pointing out how Jane Austen wants us to judge while Hurston does not.

Good essay
A for Alfi
The most important aspect of a good essay is a clear thesis. Also a good essay always refers to the Thesis for example in A for Alfi the "good list and bad list" kept getting mentioned in the bodies. Lastly a good essay flows well as A for Alfi did not use abstract language and was very straight forward.

D2
After reading on a couple of Essay's i came across one different from the rest of the others. This essay was about Mr. Hurst, a EXTREMELY minor character in Pride and Prejudice. The fact that this person was able to write an essay on Mr. Hurst inspires me that it is possible to write about everything if you can write well. I enjoyed this essay from the others i read today because the others were something i was familiar with or aware of this i was not and was enlightening. The Thesis is clearly stated. The only problem with essay is i find the flow a bit hard to follow because the language is pretty intense. I love how the writer compared Hurst as foils to Darcy and even compares him to Mrs. Bennet and Elizabeth.

ESSAYS
A for Alfi was my clear favorite out of the three essays. I thought the language in the essay made the it flow very well. The essay did not have as many big words as the others allowing the essay to run more smoothly. The Intro and Thesis were as clear as water in the Caribbean. I enjoyed how he put the "good list" "bad list" as his way to reflect back to his thesis. which helped make everything more clear. The body paragraphs also reflected constantly to the thesis which i thought made the essay much easier to follow. Also i really liked the evidence to support his claim and did not disagree once with anything through out the essay.

thesis
The techniques used by Jane Austin in Pride and Prejudice to introduce her characters is meant to mislead the reader and force them into the same misguided prejudice as these characters. In contrast, Hurston, in Their Eyes Were Watching God, does not rely on gossip. Instead, she wants her readers to not judge her characters too closely until they know them better. In comparing the two books, we discover how Austen uses introductions to show how bad judgment is, while Hurston’s concern is the opposite; she strives to show how judgment is important and you should always keep one eye open in a corrupt and often dangerous world. |
