Symbols

Symbols are essential to poetry. The purpose of symbols is to represent a more important meaning in the poem from the authors. For example in Ozymandias, the rusty statue symbolized former great power and because of history all the power has been removed. Symbols is what allows for a deeper meaning in poems and usually because of them a reader should read a poem several times in order to grasp the full meaning.
