The characters created by Jane Austin and Shakespeare in Pride and Prejudice and Hamlet took the two works to another level of greatness on top of having a good plot. In Pride Prejudice, Jane Austin creates a scenario where the characters gossip about one another for the readers to make pre judgements on that character. What Shakespeare does to create an interesting character in Hamlet is he made him very indecisive and appear crazy enough for the reader to judge or viewer.
Both authors create great supporting role characters such as Mrs. Bennett, Mr. Collins, and Polonious. All of these characters successfully annoy the reader in their exaggerated presense and provides and sprinkle of comedic genius in the two works.
